Can Communications Express users share address books?

Yes, beginning with the Sun Java System Communications Express 6.3 (Sun Java Communications Suite 5) release. The Address book component of Communications Express allows users to share their address book globally as well as to specific users. You can also assign specific permissions to users who subscribe to your address book. You can also subscribe to other shared address books.

For example, say you are user98:

  1. In the Communications Express GUI, choose the Manage Address Book from the drop down-box in the upper right.
  2. If you want to share the Personal Address Book(PAB) of user98, choose the PAB and click Edit.
  3. If you want to share with all users, select the check boxes as given under Share the Address Book field. If you want to share with a specific user (for example, user99), then add the user from Address Book (in the Share the Address Book with Specific user field) and select the permission.
  4. Log in as user99 and go to Manage Address Book.
  5. Click Subscribed Address Book, search for user98, select the check box for PAB of user98, and click Subscribe.

Now user99 can see user98's PAB under Subscribed Address Book listing.
