What are the suggestions for 'mass mailing' best practices?

Dynamic groups are the only realistic option you have right now for sending mail to all your users or selected subsets of your users. Make sure the mailing list is set for deferred delivery (should be by default). You can use a mailing list which includes other mailing lists, if you think that it is easier to manage. Refer to the Messaging Server documentation about the LDAP_USE_ASYNC option to improve the performance of large dynamic groups.

You can also use the imquotacheck utility to deposit messages directly into users' mailboxes (without going through the MTA at all).
