Talk:Mail.log V Records
From MsgServerDocWiki
The important thing to note about V records is that they are only generated when a transaction is underway, that is, the failure has to have occurred after the MAIL FROM command is sent but before the trailing dot on the message (in the case of DATA) or the last section (in the case of BDAT) of the message has been received by the server. The most common reason for this is client bust of some sort. However, the more pernicious case is where some network issue causes an interruption of the data flow from the client to the server, most often in the middle of the message data. In such cases the presense of lots of V records is a good indication that something is awry. - Ned
